PASSIE TE HUUR
A project by Yvonne Droge Wendel and Saliou Traoré -
commissioned by Artotheek ZuidOost- Centrum Beeldende Kunst, Amsterdam.
Our given task was to bring value and publicity to the collection of 'Artotheek' Zuidoost.
Our work consisted of: interviews with people who rent art. These interviews were taken in Amsterdam south east and Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso where a simular art rental exists. Furthermore we made photocollages of the objects 'for rent' showing them in various trendy locations. All images and videofootage was presented on a large screen in a mobile unite which we positioned alongside a busy road. The unit was installed during a period of 10 days.
"..As one of my favorite poets, Ezra Pound, once said, the beef stew cooking on the stove doesnít need any advertising. It has advertising. It has its aroma. You can smell the beef stew on the stove. But the beef stew in the can has to be advertised. Somebody has to sell it to you. It canít sell itself.
- Carl Andre, 1968
